How often should I change my toothbrush?
We recommend that you replace your tooth brush at least eery two-three months.  Toothbrushes should be replaced after you have any upper respiratory tract infections such as a old or a flu.

Do I really need to floss?
Yes, brushing alone reaches 3 out of 4 surfaces of each tooth.  The surfaces between teeth can't be reached by simple brushing.  This will cause gum disease.  Daily flossing will keep you teeth and gums healthy.

My teeth are sensitve when I drink somthing cold or sweet?
The most common causes of a tooth sensitivity are cavity or recession of the gum line.  However if the sensitivity involves only an area or side of your mouth this could be caused by grinding or clinching your teeth.

Can my allergies and sinus conditions promote bad breath?
Upper respiratory infections, sinus condition along with seasonal allergies create postnasal drip in the back of your tongue.  These discharges have a foul smell.  What makes the situation worse is the oral bacterial which feed upon these discharges and create a more smelly waste products; hence adding to the problems a person may have with the bad breath!

How to get rid of bad breath?
-Brush your teeth after each meal for four to five minutes each.
-Floss at least once a day
-Use a metal tongue scraper
-Drink plenty of water to keep your mouth moist
-Change your toothbrush every 4 months
-Chew sugarless gum
-Chew fresh parsley

How often should I change my toothbrush?
We recommend that you replace your toothbrush every three months.  You should replace your toothbrushes after you have had an upper respiratory tract infection such as a cold or a flu.
Do I really need to floss?
Yes, brushing only reaches 3 out of 5 surfaces of each tooth.  The surfaces between your teeth can only be reached and cleaned by flossing.  These surfaces are areas where cavities and periodontal disease (gum disease) usually start occurring.  Daily flossing will keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Useful information about different types of teeth whitening

Teeth whitening is designed to make your teeth whiter.  In most cases people have significant lightening of their teeth, but the results can not be guaranteed.  one issue that worries most patients is regarding the long term affects of tooth whitening.  Research has shown that when whitening is done properly, it will not harm your teeth or gums.  However, like any other treatments, whitening has some risks and limitations.

Who are candidates for teeth whitening?
Just about anyone with permanent teeth is a good candidate for teeth whitening.  Please keep in mind that people with dark yellow teeth tend to whiten better than people with gray teeth.  Patients who have Tetracycline stain, do not whiten very well.  Crowns, white fillings, bondings, veneer, lumineers, and bridges do not bleach.

What are different types of whitening?
In general there are two types of  Professional tooth whitening:  One hour whitening aka ZOOM & Home whitening.

What is Zoom?
Zoom or one hour tooth whitening can be done in one visit and usually take about one hour.  Gum protection is applied, the whitening gel is applied and a special light is used to enhance the bleaching.  One of the advantages of power whitening include fast results, and better results in less time than home bleaching. Most patients improve 5-6 shades after bleaching.  Please keep in mind that this procedure may cause temporary sensitivity in some patients.

What is Home Whitening?
This process, involves wearing a custom-made bleaching tray (looks like a thin, transparent nightgaurd) filled with bleaching agent.  You should wear the gel-filled tray 2-3 hours per day for about one to two weeks, depending on the degree of whitening you desire.  The advantage of home whitening is lower cost than one hour bleaching.  The disadvantage is that the success of the treatment is dependent on your commitment to waring the trays consistently for one to two weeks.

How often Do I need an exam and cleaning?
It is recommended to see your dentist at least twice a year unless you are told otherwise by your dentist.

What is a Periodontal disease?
Periodontal disease is commonly known as pyorrhea is the most common cause of teeth loss in older people.  "Periodontal" means around the tooth and periodontal disease refers to deterioration of the gum and bone around your teeth.

Why do I need a Crown?
A crown aka "Caps" restore a tooth to its normal shape, size and function.  The purpose of a crown is to strengthen or improve the cosmetics of a tooth.  The following are a few possibilities as why you need a crown:

1.) There is not enough tooth remaining to provide support for a very large filling (more than 50% of a tooth consist of a filling).
2.) Covering a discolored tooth
3.) Protecting a tooth from fracture
4.) Attach a bridge
5.) Cover a dental implant

What is a crown made from?
Your dentist will determine the type for the crown you need based on the tooth location, the position of your gum, the amount of tooth that shows when you smile, the shade and color of the tooth and lastly function of the tooth.  There are several types of crowns.  Metal alloy(Gold Crowns), Ceramics, Porcelain, Composite resin, or Porcelain fused to metal.

What are the steps involved w/ getting a crown?

Two dental visits are needed to complete the treatment.  During the first appointment, your dentist will numb your tooth, remove the existing filling and shape the outer surface of a tooth to accommodate the thickness of a crown.  After the old filling is removed, any decay (cavity) is excavated, new material called Build Up will replace the empty area.  Then an impression of your tooth is taken for the dental lab.  This impression will help the dental lab tech to customize your crown for you.  In the mean time you will have a temporary cap until your crown is made.  During the second appointment your temp crown is removed and replaced by a perm crown.  During this appointment your dentist will make necessary adjustments to your crown before cementation.

How can I protect my crowns & Bridges?
To prevent damage to your crown & bridge, avoid chewing hard foods, ice, popcorn, or any hard objects, such as pencils.  This is especially important for tooth colored crowns & bridges.  Brush three times a day (4-6 minutes each time!), floss your teeth once a day to remove plaque, a sticky fill of bacteria.  See your dentist for regular exam and cleaning at least twice a year.

Why do I need to replace a missing tooth?
Teeth work together.  When a tooth is lost, the adjacent teeth will tilt into the empty space.  Also the teeth in tech opposite jaw will shift up or down towards the empty space.  This will impact your bite and place unusually stress on your teeth.  Also chewing on one side will cause extra stress on your TMJ.  Also teeth that have tipped or drifted are very hard to clean, which makes them more susceptible to cavity and gum disease.  Therefore, you may end up loosing the adjacent or opposing teeth.

How is a bridge attached?
A fixed bridge is cemented to tech natural teeth next to the empty space left by he missing teeth.  A false tooth called a pontic replaceds the lost tooth or teeth.  This pontic is attached to the crowns adjacent to the empty space.  A bridge is cemented permanently in place and must be brushed and floss regularly.

Why Dental implants?
Generally dental implants provide a more advanced replacement for the missing teeth than a traditional bridge or a partial.  Dental implants are small metal screws manufactured from titanium placed in your jaw.  Titanium is highly biocompatible, cncouraging bone your jaw bone to attach to the implant during the healing process.  A restoration will all ceramic component crown is placed on top of the titanuim screw, giving you a natural beautiful reasults
